The CSS Virginia was an ironclad warship of the Confederate States Navy. She was built using the remains of the scuttled USS Merrimack, which sank before it was completely burned at the Gosport Shipyard in Portsmouth,Virginia. She was most famous for her battle with the Monitor. She had an iron deck and casement 4" thick and ten cannons. She was equipped with a ram - the first in over a thousand years. The Virginia was 275' in length, her beam 38.6', her speed 9 knots, she carried 320 officers and men. Our model is 25" long x 5½" wide and stands 6½" high on a pedestal base. A brass name plate is attatched.
